The Position
Licensed Professional Engineers provide professional services involving the application of engineering principles and data, or activities in connection with public or private utilities, structures, buildings, machines, equipment or projects impacting the public welfare or the safeguarding of life, health or property.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
NDOT's Local Public Agency (LPA) Section has an exciting career opportunity for a Professional Engineer located in the Local Public Agency section of the Design Division in Carson City.
Successful candidate will use engineering design knowledge and experience, software and management skills to oversee the Federal compliance of project development and construction for a wide range of transportation projects across the State of Nevada.
Position will be responsible for developing legal agreements or supplemental agreements with local public agencies; reviewing and approving local public agency and consultant construction plans, as well as, specifications, and estimates to ensure compliance with established standards and policies.
This position also ensures the appropriate use of federal funds; all environmental and right-of-way issues are addressed; provides guidance to local agencies to ensure compliance with federal requirements; ensures that projects stay within the scope; coordinates with the resident engineer to ensure the project is built in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, reviewing and approving project progress invoices and develops reports, designs data, and other documentation as needed.

Special Notes
A person that is a licensed Professional Engineer in another state must become licensed as a Professional Engineer in Nevada within six months of appointment as a condition of employment.
The practice of engineering does not include land surveying or the work ordinarily performed by persons who operate or maintain machinery or equipment.
Special Requirements
Registration as a Professional Engineer is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
